about tinnitus
Does tobacco have any effect on Tinnitus?

I’ve ALWAYS had Ringing in my ears, as far back as I could remember. Over the years it got a bit louder and with a couple more tones, but was never overbearing unless I drank coffee or something.

Today I smoked a cigarette (something that is extremely rare for me) and suddenly it was…silent. I could still hear everything else, but the ringing was gone, completely. Now, 30 minutes later it’s still only about 1/10 the normal intensity. Is this normal?

Hi There,

Check your smoking as it not only raises your blood pressure but also provides enough contamination to your already troubled ear/ears increasing the chances of further infections.

As for as your Chronic Tinnitus goes, as you have asked in the alternative therapies section, here are a few tips..

Many conventional medications achieve only limited success in tinnitus relief, and usually their bothersome side effects such as dry mouth, blurred vision, and constipation often discourage use.

Valium, Xanax and Klonopin are benzodiazepine drugs that many doctors prescribe for tinnitus. They are addicting to varying degrees and cannot be used continuously for a long period of time. They are helpful in Reducing Tinnitus Symptoms And aid in sleeping. Valium is the most addicting of these and is not used often for this reason. Xanax is very popular and is prescribed often for tinnitus. However, the ATA report on medications that cause tinnitus lists Xanax as causing it in 6.6% of cases.

Natural and holistic tinnitus remedies can be effective in assisting with the relief of symptoms, as well as addressing the individual’s overall health and well-being.

Herbal and homeopathic remedies are gentle, yet effective – without the harmful side effects of conventional medicine. Tinnitus herbal remedies can be used to support all body systems involved in helping the ear to perform its tasks of clear hearing and balance, as well as the circulatory, cardiovascular, and nervous systems.

Some of the most common Herbs used are
•Ginkgo Biloba is excellent for a number of cerebral and circulatory disorders. It is probably the most widely-used herb for Tinnitus And many sufferers swear by this natural ingredient.
•Rosemary dilates and strengthens blood vessels and is an excellent circulation tonic. Rosemary is particularly useful for tinnitus that is caused or worsened by high blood pressure and other circulatory conditions.
•Avena Sativa is effective in reducing high cholesterol levels which can contribute to circulatory problems which cause tinnitus.
•Wild Hyssop s also useful in reducing pain and inflammation.
•Salicylic Ac. is indicated for tinnitus with loud roaring or ringing sounds, which may be accompanied by deafness or vertigo. This remedy is particularly useful in people whose symptoms began with a bout of flu, Meniere’s disease or long-term use of aspirin.

Hope all this helps

Good Luck!

Infinitesimality: Homeopathy uses vegetable, mineral and chemically processed mixtures of natural substances, in repeatedly diluted strength to administer minute doses. 3.Totality: Since Homeopathy considers a person as a whole, every treatment is based on the assumption that every illness is the apparent manifestation of a much deeper-rooted disorder. 100% natural – 100% safe Homeopathy is a form of natural therapy that treats illnesses with minute, and therefore innocuous doses of certain substances, selected according to the patient’s own individuality, reactions and heredity, as well as family and social environments. Magical Secrets About Aquatint

Magical Secrets About Aquatint

$60

Magical Secrets are quickly grasped. They open doors to fresh ways of seeing and understanding. Artists use aquatint, a form of etching, to create delicate washes, velvety blacks, and intricate layers of color impossible in other art media. In this book, the third in the Magical Secrets series about etchings, Emily York discusses 46 aquatints by 32 artists, with special attention to fascinating sequential works by Richard Diebenkorn and Al Held. Emily York is a master printer at Crown Point Press, a publishing workshop where artists have been creating etchings since 1962. She ties process directly to art, and with clear writing and abundant illustrations explains the aquatint processes of spit bite, sugar lift, soap ground, and water bite. She also details steel-facing and multiple-plate printing, and gives step-by-step instructions for making your own aquatints. The book has two appendices: Printing the Crown Point Way by Kathan Brown and Using Acid to Bite Plates by Catherine Brooks. Anyone who cares about art will enjoy this book, and anyone who makes etchings will find it indispensible. The included DVD demonstrates the processes, and the accompanying website (www.magical-secrets.com) provides ongoing information about printmaking. Author — Emily York. Hardcover with DVD. 360 pages. 10" × 8" (25 cm × 20 cm).

Suzette and the Puppy: A Story About Mary Cassatt

$10.19

Little Suzette and her nursemaid enjoy daily walks in the handsome park near their home, where they often see a tall, elegant lady strolling in the park with her tiny puppy. Then, a comical incident transforms Suzette and the puppy into friends. The time and place of this gentle story is Paris in the 1870s, when many fine artists were creating the exciting approach to painting called Impressionism. As it happens, little Suzette’s Uncle Edgar, the famous Edgar Degas, is one of those artists. One day, Uncle Edgar sends an artist to paint Suzette’s picture. Imagine Suzette’s surprise, when the artist turns out to be the tall lady from the park! And imagine Suzette’s delight when the little puppy comes with her! The result of this enchanting meeting lives on to this day in an art masterpiece, for the woman was the influential American artist, Mary Cassatt. Her painting of Suzette and the little dog, known as The Little Girl in the Blue Armchair , now hangs in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Among this book’s many beautiful full-color illustrations is a reproduction of the story’s painting. Joan Sweeney was born and grew up in Toledo, Ohio. Her fondest memories as a child include walking through the Museum of Art galleries and attending Saturday art classes. She wrote her first book, Penguin Island , when she was six years old. Only one copy was made, which her father bought for a nickel. Sweeney has also worked as a newspaper reporter for a newspaper, a dream that grew from her interest in the comic strip reporter, Brenda Starr. Sweeney currently resides in Evanston, Illinois, and has three “grown-up” children and five grandchildren. Jennifer Heyd Wharton has earned recognition as one of the best-known artists in Maryland, and through her unique perspective on color and texture, is rapidly gaining attention throughout the United States. Proficient in many genres and mediums, she has primarily focused on the mediums of watercolor and oils to communicate her feelings and awareness of daily life. Heyd Wharton graduated with honors from Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, before beginning her career as a successful illustrator, package designer, and art director. She currently co-owns a gallery/studio in Easton, Maryland, called the Troika Gallery Fine Art Studio, and is well-known for her watercolors, murals, and illustrations, which are often seen in children’s books, newspapers, and magazines. Heyd Wharton’s paintings have won numerous awards from several art societies and federations in the eastern United States. She is a member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society and the Academy of Arts in Maryland. She is a featured artist in major galleries in Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, and surrounding states. Long Dan Cao is used as a bitter tonic in Chinese herbalism where it promotes digestive secretions and treats a range of illnesses associated with the liver. The root is antibacterial and stomachic. It is used in the treatment of jaundice, leucorrhoea, eczema, conjunctivitis, sore throat, acute infection of the urinary system, hypertension with dizziness and tinnitus. This species is one of several that are the source of the medicinal gentian root, the following notes are based on the general uses of G. lutea which is the most commonly used species in the West. Used as an infusion, decoction, extract and tincture. Gentian is a digestive aid and appetite stimulator. The 1997 Commission E on Phytotherapy and Herbal Substances of the German Federal Institute for Drugs, reflecting the opinion of modern scientific herbalism, recommends Gentian root for ‘Digestive disorders, such as loss of appetite, fullness, flatulence.’ ‘Contraindications: Gastric and duodenal peptic ulcers. Side Effects: Especially sensitive persons may occasionally experience headaches.’ ‘Daily dosage: Tincture: 1 – 3 g; Fluidextract: 2 – 4 g; Root: 2 – 4 g. Mode of Administration: Comminuted drug and dried extracts for infusions, bitter-tasting forms of medications for oral administration.’ ‘Actions: The essential active principles are the bitter substances contained in the herb. These bring about a reflex excitation of the taste receptors, leading to increased secretion of saliva and the digestive juices. Gentian root is therefore considered to be not simply a pure bitter, but also a roborant and tonic. In animal experimentation there are indications that bronchial secretion is increased.’ Gentian’s bitter glycosides gentiopicrin and amarogentin stimulate secretion of saliva in the mouth and hydrochloric acid in the stomach, and may also stimulate bile production, which aids in the body’s assimilation of fats. Grieve’s classic ‘A Modern Herbal’: ‘Gentian is one of the most useful of our bitter vegetable tonics. It is specially useful in states of exhaustion from chronic disease and in all cases of general debility, weakness of the digestive organs and want of appetite. It is one of the best strengtheners of the human system, and is an excellent tonic to combine with a purgative to prevent its debilitating effects. Many dyspeptic complaints are more effectually relieved by Gentian bitters than by Peruvian Bark. It is of extreme value in jaundice and is prescribed extensively.’ ‘Besides being unrivalled as a stomachic tonic, Gentian possesses febrifuge, emmenagogue, anthelmintic and antiseptic properties, and is also useful in hysteria, female weakness, etc. Gentian with equal parts of Tormentil or galls has been used with success for curing intermittent fever.’ ‘As a simple bitter, Gentian is considered more palatable combined with an aromatic, and for this purpose orange peel is frequently used. $46.66

The fruit is eaten raw. Mulberry fruit is classified in the modern Chinese Materia Medica as a blood tonic, and is listed along with herbs having similar traditional uses. Traditionally, mulberry fruit has been used as a medicinal agent to nourish the yin and blood, benefit the kidneys, and treat weakness, fatigue, anemia, and premature graying of hair. It is also used utilized to treat urinary incontinence, tinnitus, dizziness, and constipation in the elderly and the anemic. The dominant taste of the ripe fruit is sweet but usually somewhat bland, due to the high water content and low level of other flavoring ingredients, but a richer flavor develops if the fruit is dried; it can then be used as a raisin substitute. In recent years, with considerable work on cultivating the mulberry plants under various conditions, mulberry fruit juice has been commercially produced as a health beverage, and it has become very popular in China, Japan, and Korea. The white mulberry has a long history of medicinal use in Chinese medicine, almost all parts of the plant are used in one way or another. The leaves are taken internally in the treatment of colds, influenza, eye infections and nosebleeds. An injected extract of the leaves can be used in the treatment of elephantiasis and purulent fistulae. The stems are used in the treatment of rheumatic pains and spasms, especially of the upper half of the body, high blood pressure. A tincture of the bark is used to relieve toothache. The fruit has a tonic effect on kidney energy. It is used in the treatment of urinary incontinence, dizziness, tinnitus, insomnia due to anaemia, neurasthenia, hypertension, diabetes, premature greying of the hair and constipation in the elderly. The root bark is used internally in the treatment of asthma, coughs, bronchitis, oedema, hypertension and diabetes. Extracts of the plant have antibacterial and fungicidal activity.

In the traditional Chinese medicine, Gu-Sui-Bu (Drynaria fortunei (kunze) J. Sm) has been reported as a good enhancer for bone healing. In this experiment, we investigate the biochemical effects of this traditional Chinese medicine on the bone cells culture. Different concentrations of crude extract of Gu-Sui-Bu were added to rat bone cells culture. The mitochondria activity of the bone cells after exposure was determined by colorimetric assay.… In this study, we demonstrated that Gu-Sui-Bu has potential effects on the bone cells culture. One of the major effects of Gu-Sui-Bu on the bone cells is probably mediated by its effect on the osteclasts activities. Continued and advanced study on the alterations in gene expression of bone cells by Chinese medicines will provide a basis for understanding the observed bone cell responses to various pharmacological interventions.

It is taken internally in the treatment of complaints associated with weak kidney and liver energy such as menopausal problems (especially premature menopause), blurred vision, cataracts, tinnitus, rheumatic pains, palpitations, backache and insomnia. Modern research has shown that the plant increases the white blood cell count and is of value when used to prevent bone marrow loss in cancer chemotherapy patients, it also has potential in the treatment of AIDS. Extracts of the plant show antitumour activity. Good results have also been achieved when the fruit has been used in treating respiratory tract infections, hypertension, Parkinson’s disease and hepatitis. The fruit is harvested when fully ripe and is dried for later use. It is often decocted with other herbs in the treatment of a wide variety of ailments and also as a general tonic. Some caution is advised in their use, since the fruits are toxic when eaten in quantity. The leaves are anodyne, diaphoretic, febrifuge, pectoral and vulnerary. The bark of the stems is diaphoretic.

The best-studied and most popular herb in Europe, ginkgo is prescribed more than 5 million times per year in Germany alone. Numerous well-controlled studies have shown it can improve blood flow to the brain and alleviate vertigo and ringing in the ears. And the evidence of its safety is solid. In China, the curative powers of Ginkgo have been known for thousands of years. It has been used as an aid in the treatment of many of the problems typically associated with aging, such as poor blood circulation, mental confusion and memory loss. Ginkgo stimulates cerebral circulation and oxygenation of cells, thereby improving mental clarity and alertness. Ginkgo has further been found to be effective in reducing blood cell clumping which medical science has discovered can bring on congestive heart disease and strokes. Medicinal use of Ginkgo leaf tea is ancient in Chinese herbal medicine. It helps clear the mind and improve the power of concentration. Modern clinical trials have demonstrated the usefulness of ginkgo in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, age-related cognitive decline and depression. Ginkgo’s flavone glycosides and terpene lactones do indeed increase circulation to the brain and other parts of the body as well as exerting a protective action on nerve cells. The unique terpene lactone components found in ginkgo are known as ginkgolides and bilobalide. Ginkgolides apparently improve circulation and inhibit platelet-activating factor. Bilobalide protects the cells of the nervous system. Recent animal studies indicate that bilobalide may help regenerate damaged nerve cells. One double blind study found that ginkgo could help people with macular degeneration, an oxidation-related disorder causing decreased or lost vision. Ginkgo’s antioxidant activity in the brain and central nervous system may help prevent age-related declines in brain function. The brain and central nervous system are particularly susceptible to free radical attack. Free radical damage, that is, oxidation damage, in the brain is widely accepted as being a contributing factor in many disorders associated with aging, including Alzheimer’s disease. The 1997 Commission E on Phytotherapy and Herbal Substances of the German Federal Institute for Drugs recommends a dry extract from the dried leaf of Ginkgo biloba for ‘(a) symptomatic treatment of disturbed performance in organic brain syndrome within the regimen of a therapeutic concept in cases of demential syndromes with the following principal symptoms: Memory deficits, disturbances in concentration, depressive emotional condition, dizziness, tinnitus, and headache.’ ‘(b) Improvement of pain-free walking distance in peripheral arterial occlusive disease in Stage II of Fontaine (intermittent claudication) in a regimen of physical therapeutic measures, in particular walking exercise. (c) Vertigo and tinnitus (ringing in the ear) of vascular and involutional origin.’ ‘The following pharmaco
